2024 Springtime at the shore means...... time for new window treatments .... we hope!😊

Blinds

Blinds!
Still a favorite of many.

Custom blinds are for both the home and office and, like plantation shutters, they really work well in any room. Often, if it comes down to budgets, which is when wood or faux wood blinds become a more economical solution.

As mentioned, window blinds refer to any product that has slats. However, vertical blinds are still best suited for sliding doors only. Cordless blinds are becoming more and more popular for child safety concerns.

Wood Blinds vs. Faux Blinds vs. Vertical Blinds vs. Mini

Which blind option is best suitable you you?

FAUX WOOD BLINDS
Great for bathrooms and bedrooms

Faux wood blinds are not susceptible to high moisture and humidity. That is why in bathrooms they won't warp and can easily be cleaned.

Budget-friendly, these are a nice economical solution for bedrooms. We often encourage customers to save money by suggesting less expensive products in bedrooms, such as faux wood blinds. We would rather see you invest in higher quality/appearance products such as, plantation shutters, textured roller shades and roman shades  in the downstairs' rooms.

Faux wood are a bit heavy to lift, so most people just leave them down and control privacy and light by adjusting the slat opening. This product comes in 2" and 2 1/2" slat sizes. Faux wood blinds also come in corded or cordless lifts.

VERTICAL BLINDS
These are best for sliding doors and large openings

Still popular for sliding doors and are probably the most economical product solution for large openings. They come in either vinyl or free-hanging fabric or free-hanging fabric slipped into a vinyl backing.

These can be controlled by a wand, which would be child-safe or by a cord/chain.

Vinyl verticals are very durable and can easily be washed if the ketchup or red wine spills on it. Fabric verticals, on the other hand, are best when there are no pets or little ones in the home. Vinyl verticals now come in such a textured array of options, that they often actually look like fabric. Much different than those vertical blinds you had growing up!

ALUMINUM MINI & 2" BLINDS
Most economical solution and least popular window treatment

Probably one of the least common product offerings anymore for the home. These products are, however, still common in office settings. They are very inexpensive, but do have some nice options.

The 1" blind typically comes with a cord pull and wand tilt, but there is a cordless lift option as well. The thickness of the aluminum can be either .06 or .08 ml thick. The thicker the slat, the less it will be easily damaged/bent.

Slats getting bent ends are the most common problem with mini blinds. Everyone likes to go the window when its snowing and they typically bend the outside edges of the blinds to see outside. For a little bit more money, we would recommend a faux wood blind. The 2" aluminum blind is very uncommon. However, we love to do these on kitchen windows over a sink in a stainless steel or nickel finish when the appliances are stainless steel. It's a great look!

WOOD BLINDS
Beautiful finishes for every-day use

These are great for customers who like to lift their window treatments for more light and a better view. When left down, customers have the ability to control the light coming into the room.

Most people don't realize that wood blinds are lighter in weight (about 25% lighter!) than faux wood blinds, so wood blinds are much more practical than faux wood blinds for the consumer who lifts their window treatments each morning.

They come in gorgeous finishes as you see the actual grain of the wood through the stain. In fact, wood blinds can be wider as a single blind than a faux wood blind. They come in 1", 2" and 2 1/2" slat sizes. These, too, can come in corded or cordless lifts.

What are the benefits of blinds?

Pros
  1. Versatile product, in that, the slats can be opened (tilted) to any angle. Slats controls the amount of light and privacy you prefer.  Great for preventing hardwood floors and fabric furniture from fading, while still allowing view to the outside.
  2. Faux wood blinds are an economical solution and, minis are the least expensive out of all the window treatments.
Cons
  1. They don’t ‘disappear.
  2. Typically wood, faux and vertical blinds are cumbersome. Most people choose to leave the wood and faux wood blinds down and simply open and close the slats to control functionality.
  3. Can be dust collectors.
